About First Lutheran Church in Stewartsville
First Lutheran Church has a long, rich history, dating back even further than the dedication of the current church building in November 1851.
Our founders courageously worked together to build a local congregation for those living in the Stewartsville area. Today, members of First Lutheran continue to be faithful and courageous in this time of rapid change, acting boldly in making changes and sharing resources with a sister church, in a way that strengthens both congregations.
As we are preparing to celebrate our 175th anniversary in 2026, we are assembling a new book chronicling our history; we look forward to sharing it with you!
We are a congregation of the New Jersey Synod of the Evangelical Church in America.
Come see our historic building. Join us in faithful worship of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!
Meet the Pastor
Pastor Karol Van Wulfen began serving First Lutheran in October 2021. We share our pastor with our sister church in Washington, where she has been called to serve since 2004.
Pastor Karol is a graduate of Princeton Theological Seminary (M.Div.), Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia (now United) (S.T.M.), and Rutgers University (M.S.W.).
Along with her husband, Matt, she enjoys bicycling; it’s a great way to see the world and make new friends!
